Oral Hygiene Resolutions For 2017

Oral Hygiene Resolutions for 2017

At Harner Orthodontics, it's our goal to give every patient that walks through our doors the straight and healthy smile they've always dreamed of. We aim to accomplish this through our high-quality orthodontic treatments, such as braces and Invisalign. However, if you want to have an even healthier smile, it's important to also exercise good oral habits on a daily basis. Since 2017 is almost here, we've provided you with a few oral hygiene resolutions for the new year in order to keep your teeth in the best shape possible.

Keep Up Your Daily Oral Hygiene Habits

We understand that you can get real busy at times and that life can get in the way of things. However, don't let this distract you from taking the time perform your daily oral hygiene habits. It only takes two minutes to brush your teeth and doing so a few times a day will ensure a healthy smile for life. Don't forget to floss your teeth daily as well.

Cut Back on the Sugar

Over time, the more sugar you eat, the more it will eat away at your tooth enamel. Foods that are high in sugar are much more likely to cause tooth decay. Now, we're not suggesting for you to eliminate sugar completely - not even we could do that! We're simply suggesting that you cut back on the amount of sugar you intake. Your teeth will thank you for it!

Quit Bad Dental Habits

There are some habits you may have that can unknowingly -  and knowingly - cause detrimental effects to your teeth. Obviously, smoking will harm your teeth and your overall health as well. Try to stop chewing on solid objects like pens, pencils, and your fingernails. This can wear your teeth down over time.

Visit Your Dentist Every Six Months

Even if you're wearing braces or Invisalign, it's still important to visit the dentist once every six months. Your dentist will make sure that you're keeping up with healthy oral hygiene habits and also give your teeth a deep cleaning.
