Caring For Your Smile After Invisalign Treatment

Welcome To Harner Orthodontics in Huntington Beach, CA. Dr. Harner and his excellent staff have been dedicated to providing compassionate and quality service to our Orange County community since 2006. We combine skill with the latest technology to help you achieve a perfect smile that will last. We work as a team with our patients, and we'll give you the tools and knowledge to help you keep your smile healthy and clean during orthodontic treatment as well as after, during the equally important process of retention.

Give Your Smile The TLC it Needs

After Invisalign treatment, it is imperative that you continue to take close care of your teeth. We are happy to offer you the following reminders for after you finish wearing Invisalign:

  • Wear Your Retainer: Most of our patients will require a retainer after treatment, in order to prevent their teeth from shifting back into their original positions. As an Invisalign patient, you're in luck: you can just wear your last pair of aligners as your retainer! After you finish the active stage of treatment, Dr. Harner will assess your specific needs to create a retention plan perfect for you.

  • Brush and Floss Regularly: It is essential that you continue to brush and floss regularly during the retention phase of your treatment to help prevent any unwanted oral health problems. Together, brushing and flossing help remove any buildup of plaque between your teeth that can lead to gum disease, cavities, and more.

  • Continue Your Routine Dental and Orthodontic Checkups: It is important during this time that you continue going to your orthodontic checkups and regular dental exams. Dental cleanings and X-rays will help to evaluate your overall health, hygiene, and adjustment to your recently straightened teeth.

  • Avoid Certain Foods: Since your teeth may be more sensitive during this adjustment period, you may want to avoid foods that are tough to chew, particularly hard, crunchy foods.
